Partnerships, and their limit

Swapping posts with a server of similar size costs nothing and works while you are small. Once you are the bigger server, the trade stops being fair and the flow dries up — that is usually the moment owners start buying placements.

Paid placements in related communities

One post inside a server whose members already play the same game converts better than any banner. Pick two or three servers close to your topic, run a 3-day placement in each, and compare how many people actually stayed a week later.

Keep the people you brought

A promotion that doubles the member count and empties a week later costs more than it earns. Have something happening on the day the ad runs: an event, a giveaway with a real prize, or simply people in voice.

Do bump bots work?
